Halifax

Halifax Station is the gateway to a number of attractions. If museums are your thing, take a five minute stroll from the station and explore Eureka, a national children’s museum for children aged 0-11. There are six unique zones to discover in the museum, each filled with
interactive exhibits designed to inspire enquiring minds. There is also
the Calderdale Industrial Museum, again situated a five minute walk from the station. This museum shows the development of industry in Halifax and Calderdale from domestic textile manufacturing in the seventeenth century to modern day.

The Piece Hall cannot be missed. A sprawling 18th century cloth hall, now houses history exhibits, shops, bars and restaurants. It has something
for everyone.

Other attractions to visit include Wainhouse Tower that was built for the local dye works owner, John Wainhouse; Halifax Minster, Bankfield Museum, Shibden Hall and Park, and Square Chapel Arts Centre. You can also take a walk to Salterhebble Top Lock and Beacon Hill.

Of course you couldn’t forget to mention the award winning TV dramatisation of Halifax’s own Anne Lister (Gentleman Jack) of Shibden Hall, written by Calderdale’s genius scriptwriter and director Sally Wainwright, which brought the life of Anne to millions of people around the world. Finally Happy Valley was filmed in Halifax and the surrounding areas of Hebden Bridge and Sowerby Bridge.
