Sowerby Bridge - Calder Valley Line CRP

Sowerby Bridge has one of the best canal basins in the country which you can take a walk around. Boat building has long been a tradition here, you can see narrowboats being refitted and repaired on the Wharf. Walk over to Tuel Lane Lock which is one of the deepest locks in Britain. The textile industry once boomed in Sowerby Bridge with raw and processed cotton delivered to and from the mills by canal.

Station Information & History

Located on Sowerby Bridge Station, Andrew and Chris Wright opened the Jubilee Refreshment Rooms in 2009. The Refreshment Rooms are open school term times Monday – Friday and Saturdays 0900-1200. Week days they offer a whistle stop kiosk where you can grab a brew and a bacon butty 07.00-09.30, at 09.30 the kiosk closes and the refreshment room opens where they serve fabulous coffee and cake until 15.30. They also have a daily garage sale of collectables, so not only can you sit and relax with a brew you can also peruse what’s on offer.
