All Aboard for a Musical Map Adventure
Passengers travelling along the Calder Valley Line were treated to a very special journey between Rochdale and Halifax. To celebrate the launch of our newly updated Activity Maps and Visitor Guides, the Calder Valley Line Community Rail Partnership hosted an event that brought information, inspiration – and even a little live music – right into the train carriages.
A Journey to Remember
As passengers boarded their usual Northern service, they were pleasantly surprised to receive a colourful Calder Valley Line activity map and walking guide. The new edition features even more walking routes, local attractions, and hidden gems easily reached from stations along the line – perfect for those spontaneous days out.
But that’s not all. Adding to the joyful atmosphere was the wonderful Edward Jamil, a talented local musician whose live acoustic performance turned an ordinary commute into a unique experience. His uplifting music created smiles throughout the carriages and brought strangers together in shared appreciation of the moment.
Community Connections
This creative outreach event was about more than just maps and music – it was about connecting people with place, and encouraging passengers to see the train not just as a mode of transport, but as a gateway to adventure.
We were also delighted to cross paths with Councillor Sarah Courtney, who joined in the spirit of the event and shared her support for local rail engagement and sustainable travel. Her presence was a lovely and unexpected addition to the day.
A Big Thank You
We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved – from our team of volunteers who handed out guides and chatted to passengers, to Edward for bringing such a warm, engaging energy to the day. And of course, thank you to Northern for helping make events like this possible on their services.
Whether you’re a regular commuter or a weekend wanderer, we hope our updated maps help you explore more, walk more, and enjoy more along the beautiful Calder Valley Line.
Sometimes, the best travel moments come when you least expect them.
