Discover the Calderdale Way
Exploring Calderdale has just become even easier and more exciting thanks to new Calderdale Way information boards now installed at various locations across the borough – many of them just a short stroll from Calder Valley Line train stations.
This community-led initiative has been made possible through collaboration between Calderdale Council, the Calder Valley Community Rail Partnership, Visit Calderdale, and the brilliant volunteer team at CROWS (Community Rights of Way Service). Together, we’ve created an easy way for both residents and visitors to connect with nature, local heritage, and healthy outdoor activities — all from the convenience of our rail network.
What is the Calderdale Way?
The Calderdale Way is a 50-mile circular walking route that takes you through some of West Yorkshire’s most stunning scenery – from historic hilltop villages and woodland paths to panoramic moorland views. But don’t worry – you don’t have to do all 50 miles at once!
The route is broken into manageable sections, making it perfect for short day walks, family outings, or more challenging hikes. The new boards show key landmarks, walking loops, nearby facilities, and how to access the route from local train stations.
Walks from the Station
New information displays are now in place in locations including:
Brighouse
Ripponden
Todmorden
Hebden Bridge
Heptonstall
Withens Clough
Midgehole
Mytholmroyd
Jerusalem Farm Local Nature Reserve
…and more coming soon to Mixenden and Norwood Green.
Each display connects visitors to local walking opportunities and ties in with our Calder Valley Line Activity Maps, which are available at stations and online.
Why Travel by Train?
Combining rail and walking is a sustainable and enjoyable way to discover the hidden gems of Calderdale. Trains provide easy, car-free access to beautiful countryside, helping reduce traffic, support local economies, and promote active lifestyles.
Whether you’re a seasoned walker or just looking for a relaxed afternoon out, the Calder Valley Line can take you there.
A Huge Thank You
We’re incredibly grateful to all the organisations and volunteers who helped bring this project to life. It’s the perfect example of what can be achieved through strong community partnerships.
So next time you’re at one of our stations, look out for the new Calderdale Way signs. You might just find your next adventure.
