Spooky Fun and Special Guests
The New Pioneers Learning Lab Homework Club welcomed in the half-term break with a little extra sparkle – and a few cobwebs too! On a bright and cheerful day filled with Halloween fun, the children took part in a creative afternoon session full of laughter, colour, and imagination.
From crafts and costumes to themed games and snacks, the session was designed not only to celebrate the season but also to boost confidence, communication, and joy through learning and play. The energy in the room was infectious, and the children’s smiles said it all.
Adding to the excitement was a very special guest – James Blinks, CEO of Rochdale Borough Council – who visited the club to see the Learning Lab in action. Mr. Blinks spent time with the children, engaged with staff and volunteers, and showed a genuine interest in the educational and social impact the project continues to have in the local community.
The visit was a proud moment for everyone involved and a reminder of how vital supportive learning environments like the Homework Club are in building opportunity, inclusion, and resilience for young people and their families.
The Learning Lab, supported by partners including Calder Valley Line Community Rail Partnership, provides after-school academic support, creative enrichment, and digital skills learning to local children, many of whom face social or language barriers. Sessions like these – themed and celebratory – bring an extra dose of magic to an already inspiring initiative.
A big thank you to James Blinks for taking the time to visit and share in the day’s spirit, and to all the children, parents, volunteers, and supporters who make the Learning Lab such a special place.
Here’s to rest, fun, and more learning after the break – and a very happy half-term to all!
