Teddy Bear Workshop with Urban Artisans
Over three inspiring Saturdays, creativity and community came together through a very special Teddy Bear Workshop series, delivered as part of the New Pioneers Project’s Urban Artisans programme. Hosted in a welcoming space full of laughter, learning, and friendship, participants had the chance to design and stitch their own beautiful handmade teddy bears from scratch.
Led by the talented and endlessly patient Claudia, each session was a joyful mix of artistic exploration and skill-building. From pattern cutting to sewing and adding finishing touches, the workshop offered hands-on experience for both beginners and those looking to improve their crafting abilities.
More than just a creative activity, the workshops created a supportive and inclusive environment where women from diverse backgrounds could share stories, build new friendships, and grow in confidence.
We were especially pleased to support participants from Bradford, several of whom were able to travel by train thanks to the Northern travel initiative. For many, it was not only a rare opportunity to take part in such an enriching activity, but also to explore another community along the railway line.
Projects like these demonstrate the real impact of community rail – not just as a means of transport, but as a connector of people, skills, and places. Whether it’s through art, conversation, or travel, we’re proud to support initiatives that bring people together and offer meaningful experiences beyond the station platform.
A huge thank you to Claudia, all the participants, and the New Pioneers team for creating something truly special – and for reminding us of the power of creativity and connection.
